从《红楼梦》两译本看文化取向对译者主体性的影响

  译者无疑是翻译活动中最活跃的主体因素.当代文论中阐释学和接受美学的盛行以及翻译研究中描写翻译学的兴起与翻译研究的文化转向,使译者作为翻译主体的身份得以突显,学术界开始关注译者在翻译中的作用,译者主体性随之成为翻译研究的新课题。《红楼梦》是中国历史上“前不见古人,后不见来者”的经典著作,自问世以来,一直广受欢迎。专家学者们对它的批注、考评和研究经久不息,并逐渐汇集成一门新的学问—红学。上世纪70年代末、80年代初,《红楼梦》两个全译本—英国汉学家大卫·霍克斯(David Hawkes)、约翰·闵福德(John Minford)翻译的The Story of the Stone和杨宪益(Yang Xianyi)、戴乃迭(Gladys Yang)夫妇翻译的A Dream of Red Mansion相继面世。两种译本翻译方法及风格等都各不相同,却都取得了巨大的成功,这与两位译者的主体性的发挥是分不开的。因此对《红楼梦》两译本的研究必将有助于更深刻的理解译者的主体性,而翻译红楼梦这样有着丰富文化内涵的著作时,译者的文化取向又发挥着举足重轻的作用。本文试通过对比杨宪益和大卫·霍克斯的《红楼梦》英...
