【摘要】：My Country and My People是我国著名国学大师林语堂代表作之一。本文以勒弗菲尔(Lefevere)提出的“操纵”(manipulation)理论为框架,从社会文化角度比较了My Country and My People的两个中译本：20世纪30年代的黄嘉德译本与80年代的郝志东等的译本。比较的目的在于揭示不同社会文化背景下的意识形态、诗学以及赞助人三因素是如何作用于译者的翻译实践,并影响其行为的。 勒弗菲尔是翻译研究学派的主要代表人物之一,他将翻译活动归入文化系统并进行研究,讨论了意识形态、诗学及赞助人对译者翻译文本和翻译策略的选择所产生的影响,提出翻译即改写这一论断。不同的时代,不同的译者,不同的文化环境和历史背景,便有不同的意识形态倾向,受不同的主流诗学和赞助人的制约。译者总是在意识形态、诗学传统和赞助人的操纵下使译本尽可能被更多的目的语读者接受。 本文在操纵理论的指导下,通过比较上述两个中文译本,指出不同的历史环境、意识形态、赞助人、主流诗学会影响到译者的翻译行为和翻译策略,并进一步影响到译文,因此不同时代的译者,他们在语言表达方面存在着很大的差异。本文从语言、风格和文化等方面对两个译本进行了对比研究,共分五章。 第一章是引言,介绍了本文的研究目的,研究方法,研究意义以及文章结构。 第二章探讨了操纵理论的由来,并对其意识形态、诗学以及赞助人作了简单介绍。 第三章对林语堂、My Country and My People的内容以及所选择的两个中文译本进行了介绍。 第四章对两译本进行评析,涉及到措词、风格、句子结构等方面的比较,分别从意识形态、赞助人、主流诗学等方面阐述了影响,然后对两本译本的质量做了简单评估,得出黄嘉德的译本更接近译者的写作风格这一结论。 第五章是全文的结论。 通过两个译本的比较,揭示了译者的确会受到各种操控因素的影响,并在译文中有所体现,而通过对译文的分析,可看出译者行为的痕迹和倾向。如果要进行文本和译者行为的相互关系印证,则需要将文本因素和译者因素结合起来,将翻译内部因素和外部因素结合起来等,才可能全面而客观的认识翻译的活动。
