论《魔戒》对圣经叙事模式的摹仿

J.R.R.托尔金的代表作《魔戒》业已在英美学术界赢得了极高的声望,被公推为欧美文学界方兴未艾的奇幻文学发展的里程碑。基于文本细读和批评回顾,本文作者发现《魔戒》的叙事模式源自于圣经。故此,本文拟运用加拿大批评家诺思洛普·弗莱提出的圣经叙事理论—圣经U型叙事理论—探究托尔金在《魔戒》中对圣经叙事模式的摹仿与借鉴。本文首先阐释弗莱基于其对圣经叙事结构的研究而提出的U型叙事理论:圣经叙事主要遵循U型模式,但同时也体现了对U型模式的魔怪式摹仿—倒U性模式,并论及托尔金本人叙事理论—乐灾与U型叙事模式的契合,从而更合理地论证托尔金对圣经叙事模式的摹仿。随后本文着重探析了《魔戒》对圣经U型叙事模式的摹仿,认为这种摹仿主要体现在托尔金对《魔戒》情节的精心安排上。托尔金对小说中三个关键人物(佛罗多、亚拉贡和甘道夫)的命运起伏,以及与此三人密切联系的三个地域(夏尔、刚铎和艾辛格)的荣辱兴衰的描写都遵循了圣经的U型叙事模式:始于幸福安宁,继而遭受灾难,但都终享福祉。再次,本文论证了《魔戒》对圣经中次要叙事模式—倒U型模式的摹仿。该作品中的邪恶力量的典型—魔戒、索伦和魔多的兴衰消亡无一例外地呈现出倒U型模...
