　　从国内外几十年来对美国女作家麦卡勒斯小说研究批评中,“精神隔离”的主题成为对麦卡勒斯的评论的关键词,这样不仅使麦卡勒斯的作品创作主题显得单一,而且作品脱离了特定的历史文化语境,削弱了小说的价值。不同时期中,研究麦卡勒斯作品的研究者都尝试着突破“新批评”对麦卡勒斯批评的局限,在不同的意识形态领域对精神隔离的主题进行创新性、探索性的解读。 酷儿理论开拓麦卡勒斯小说研究的事业,具有突破性的意义。洛里·J.肯沙夫特在“同性爱与人际关系:从‘累斯膑’的角度解读卡森·麦卡勒斯”的文章中,尝试从酷儿文化背景下阐释麦卡勒斯“精神隔离”主题。她指出同性爱是麦卡勒斯小说中反复出现的一个主题,她认为,应该借助同性恋的视觉重新审视麦卡勒斯的小说世界。因此,麦卡勒斯的主题有了新的解读:禁区中的爱使个体比常人更深切地体会到孤独和隔绝;作者对青少年题材的偏好也得到了相应的解释:内化的同性恋恐惧使她不能直接表现成年女子的同性爱欲望,而是选择少女的性困惑来表达同性恋者对异性恋文化反抗和顺从的矛盾心理;而且作品的怪诞手法也由此产生了新的意义:在一个视同性恋为残疾的文化语境之中,怪诞恰当的反映了边缘人隔绝的生存状态。 本文...
