《老残游记》中的限制性叙述及其在英译中的传递

《老残游记》是中国十大古典白话小说之一,有较高的社会价值和艺术成就,表现之一就是其对传统叙述模式的突破。我国古典小说受史传和说书传统影响,大多属于全知叙述模式,《老残游记》对于传统叙述模式的突破在于第三人称限制性叙述的应用,这种叙述模式具有现代性特征。限制性叙述指作为叙述中介的叙述者的减弱或消失,具体体现在内视角和外视角的应用。前者指叙述者放弃自己的眼光而通过人物的眼光来观察,使得叙述声音和叙述眼光分离,后者指叙述者客观的展示人物的状态,叙述情景,不表达人物的内心。本文聚焦《老残游记》中的限制性叙述及其英译的研究,从内视角和外视角入手,结合叙述学相关理论,具体分析小说中的聚焦者,聚焦对象,叙述者声音,人物心理,事件的呈现方式等,分析限制性叙述如何在译文中传递,探讨译文在叙述效果上的得与失,并试图分析背后的原因。研究发现:《老残游记》的内视角主要表现在说书和景色的描写上,这些都是通过故事的聚焦人物老残的眼睛看到的,外视角主要表现在对社会黑暗的揭示上;林语堂在其译文中强化了内视角,例如林语堂通过使用自由直接引语强化了人物心理,这有助于人物形象的塑造,同时他通过删除某些有关人物行动的外部描述...
