《押沙龙,押沙龙!》中的两大矛盾特征,即历史性和反历史性,已得到评论界的公认,但多数评论家只注意到两者的对立,而忽视了两者的内在一致性。本文旨在论证《押沙龙,押沙龙!》的反历史性不仅是对历史性的一种批判、反拨和解构,更是对历史性的超越和竞争性互补,两大支柱统一于福克纳深刻的人文关怀中。《押沙龙,押沙龙》中展现的历史画卷核心是主体性的极度膨胀,自我中心主义意识的极力强化,和对他者声音的无情压抑;百里庄园的坍塌,斯特潘宏图的破灭,南方的败落本质上体现了西方以自我为坐标范式的“主导叙事”单值概念的失败。而反历史性叙述手法的应用——多角度叙述,呼喊和回应手法,有效沉默和逆转——颠覆了中心和边缘,自我和他者的二元对立结构模式,为他者声音的释放提供了有效的途径,表现了对长期为主流文化所忽视、冷落的边缘群体的重视。历史性与反历史性的统一要追溯到福克纳自我和他者的双重身份。南北战争的失败、北军的占领、经济的衰败打破了一系列关于南方优越的神话,南方在美国主流文化中成了穷山恶水、野蛮原始、民风刁泼、愚昧无知的代名词。南方人,尤其是南方男性白人,深刻体会到他者只能被别人所定义、所描绘、所解释,没有主体,没有...
