《水浒传》在英语世界的改写与研究

【摘要】：《水浒传》是中国古典小说名著,目前已被译为多国文字,在世界范围内广泛流传,并产生了诸多研究成果。本论文从跨文化的角度,借助比较文学的相关理论,分析英语世界《水浒传》的改写与研究,总结英语世界《水浒传》研究特色与方法,为我国《水浒传》研究提供“他山之石”的借鉴；同时将英语世界《水浒传》研究与国内相关研究进行比较,为中外《水浒传》研究交流做一些基础性工作。本论文除绪论和结语外,由五个部分组成：第一章首先梳理《水浒传》英译情况,并对其改写本进行分析。《水浒传》节译本《一个英雄的故事》和《强盗与士兵》按照西方“统一性”原则和西方流浪汉小说模式对原文进行了内容和形式上的改写。这些改写受到译者西方意识形态和诗学的影响,主要目的是为了满足西方读者的期待视野。第二章主要探讨英语世界《水浒传》演化研究,包括小说成书、作者和版本三个部分。国内胡适、鲁迅和郑振铎等人的《水浒传》演化研究成果成为英语世界《水浒传》演化研究的立论基础,但由于缺乏实证材料,英语世界学者搁置了对作者和版本的考订,保持存疑的态度。英语世界还以西方批评理论考查《水浒传》的演化,产生了一些具有西方批评特色的研究成果,如“口头-书面”交互传递的成书模式研究和以伊恩·瓦特小说理论考察《水浒传》的版本生成研究。第三章以英语世界《水浒传》人物研究为对象,分别从性别视野、道德评判和社会职业三个角度进行分析。从性别视野看,英语世界对《水浒传》的女性研究是其研究一大特色,并且影响深远。在人物道德方面,英语世界学者观点各异：有学者认为梁山好汉正义、高尚；有学者称他们嗜杀、厌女；还有学者试图调和这两种不同的道德观。在梁山好汉社会职业出身方面,英语世界学者不仅呈现了梁山好汉的具体职业,还进一步分析了梁山集团的人员构成和反抗性质。第四章以英语世界《水浒传》结构研究为焦点,主要从小说整体结构和重复情节结构两个层面探讨英语世界《水浒传》结构研究成果及其特点。英语世界《水浒传》结构研究带有明显的西方学术特质,无论是赛珍珠的“模仿生活”结构,还是“缀段式”结构都是以西方叙事文学结构为标准的考察结果。在反思以西方批评方法审视《水浒传》合理性和适度性后,英语世界学者挖掘出《水浒传》的多种整体结构和重复情节结构。第五章以英语世界《水浒传》金圣叹评点为研究对象,包括金圣叹《读‘第五才子书’法》的英译和阐释、金圣叹评点的功能与效果以及金圣叹评点与西方小说批评理论三个方面。英语世界学者以金圣叹的《水浒传》评点为基点,上溯源流,下探影响,揭示了中国小说评点的历史脉络,从一定程度上建构了中国小说批评理论,重建了中国文论话语,实现了中西诗学的对话和交流。结语部分主要综合考查《水浒传》在英语世界的理论视野及方法、误读、对中国国内的影响和本论文需继续研究的方向。英语世界《水浒传》研究采用西方批评理论,同时又在不断反思和批判这种批评方法和之前研究成果的过程中,建构了自己的批评脉络,取得诸多研究成果。这些研究成果中也有对《水浒传》的误读,如套用西方小说理论指责《水浒传》人物心理描写缺乏、批判其缀段式结构以及夏志清对《水浒传》精神文化的批判。由于本论文主要以英语世界《水浒传》改写、演化、人物、结构和评点五个方面为研究对象,有一些研究成果未纳入本论文,只能留待日后展开研究。英语世界《水浒传》研究成果可以为国内《水浒传》研究提供一些新的视角,同时也可作为国内《水浒传》研究的参照对象,激发中西思想碰撞的学术讨论。《水浒传》蕴含着巨大文化力量,对英语世界《水浒传》研究的梳理和分析不仅有利于我们在全球化背景下理解这部小说的文化内涵,而且对中国文化走向世界也有重要的借鉴意义。
